Searching for jobs
How does keyword searching work?
The GAAPweb search engine finds all jobs containing ANY of your search terms which match any of the locations and job types (permanent/temporary) you specify. The vacancies containing the most of your search words are listed first.
Tips on Keyword searching
- Phrases should be enclosed in quotes - eg, "Financial Control" Accountant Manchester.
- Use short words, or parts of words. For example, 'bank' will pick up a job containing the words 'investment bank', whereas 'banking' will not; 'audit' will find 'auditor' and 'auditing' as well as 'audit'.
- Locations - you can be very specific allowing you to search for cities or towns, or you can search UK counties or regions. To see our breakdown of regions please click here.
- Overseas vacancies can be found using the keywords "Overseas" (for all jobs outside of the UK), "Overseas Europe" (for European jobs outside of the UK), or specific country names.
How do I exclude keywords or phrases?
Place a hyphen ‘-' in front of the exclusion term eg, South-East –London; alternatively enter the term or phrase into Exclusions box on the Search JobsSection.
How do I find roles with the right salary?
For both temporary and permanent positions insert a minimum and/or maximum annual salary in pounds sterling on the advanced search form. Note that benefits and bonuses are ignored, and not all vacancy listings include salary details.
What are "Premium Jobs"?
These usually have a more detailed job description and often name the employer. You can select the "Premium jobs only" option on the advanced search form as required.
What are "new" Jobs
Vacancies published on GAAPweb.com are listed for a standard one-week period and are often re-listed for an additional week or weeks if still available. If you only wish to see vacancies the first time they are listed, select the command "New jobs only" when performing a search on GAAPweb.
How do I search for vacancies outside of the UK?
Although the majority of vacancies advertised on GAAPweb are based in the UK, there are always a number of vacancies published which are in other countries. Search for these using the keywords "Overseas" (for all jobs outside of the UK), "Overseas Europe" (for all European jobs outside of the UK), or a specific country name.
What is Boolean logic:
Prefix keywords with AND to ensure your search results include these terms.
Prefix words with OR to give alternative keywords.
Prefix search terms with NOT to prevent CVs containing these words appearing in search results.
Words separated by a space will be treated as AND searches.
Use inverted commas to denote phrases.

How can I be sure the jobs on GAAPweb are genuine and current?
We do all we can to keep our vacancy listings current. Our standard listings automatically expire after one week. Agencies may choose to re-list vacancies after they expire, but again only for one week at a time. As a result of this we believe that we have one of the most up-to-date job sites of any sector - the average age of GAAPweb listings is only 10 business days.
How do I apply for a job?
Click on ‘Apply for this position'. Our online application process is designed to make it quick and simple to apply, you can attach a CV that you've previously saved or use the Browse box to add a new CV. If you prefer to contact a recruiter directly click on ‘Contact details' at the bottom of the page.
Can GAAPweb find me a job?
As a jobs site not a recruitment agency GAAPweb doesn't deal directly with candidates. You can however register your CV with us allowing recruiters to browse for your skills and qualifications. As you'd expect we guarantee that you're personal details will remain secure unless you specify that they may be shared.
I have some questions about a vacancy on GAAPweb
The jobs advertised on GAAPweb are listed by recruitment agencies seeking candidates on behalf of their clients, or by companies directly. Any queries you have about a particular position should be directed to the agency or company concerned. ‘Contact details' can be found at the bottom of each vacancy.
How secure are my details?
We take security very seriously at GAAPweb and the site is protected against unauthorised access using the latest security devices and 'firewalls'. The information in your profile is only accessible by you using your password unless you specify that you are happy to make your CV and details public.
Can I apply for a vacancy if I am not a resident of the UK?
There is no restriction on making initial enquiries or applying for any of the positions listed on GAAPweb, HOWEVER it is unlawful to employ a person in a UK-based job who does not have permission to live and work in the UK. You should make yourself aware of how immigration laws apply to your particular circumstances before applying for any positions.
For full details on the UK immigration laws relevant to you, contact the nearest British Diplomatic Mission in your country or the Home Office in London. A list of British Diplomatic Missions may be found on the Foreign & Commonwealth Office website. Refer also The Immigration and Nationality Directorate of the Home Office for questions about immigration and nationality in the UK.
Are my foreign qualifications recognised in the UK?
The relevance of qualifications and experience will generally depend upon individual employers, so you should discuss this with them in making application for any advertised positions. Some foreign professional qualifications may hold reciprocal recognition with equivalent UK professional bodies - you should check with the professional organisation with whom you hold membership.

How do I set up a Job Alert?
The simplest way is to perform a job search and then click on ‘Save as Job Alert', alternatively click on the ‘Job Alerts' tab at the top of your screen.
HTML version of the Joblist email includes coloured text and formatting, this version is generally easier to read. If your email client does not support HTML you will not be able to view all the information contained on the page and in this case you should select the Plain Text version from your profile options.
I'm not receiving my Joblist
If you have subscribed to Job Alert and you have unexpectedly stopped receiving your Joblist email, you should
- check that your inbox isn't too full to receive new messages
- add "joblist@gaapweb.com" to your contacts list; some email providers such as Hotmail also have a "safe list" or "allowed mailing lists" section which you may also need to add our address to, please check this with your email service provider.
